Burning Man 2024

Relying on Self Reliance while living in the desert (an actual dried up river bed in the middle of a nevada valley) with close to 80,000 others. This well organized pop up city is the most intriguing experience I’ve ever been part of in my life. What makes it so special? Let me tell you.

Self Reliance

My husband and I planned for burning man for months leading up to the event. We went all in and purchased a 28ft 5th wheel trailer and provisioned it with all the comforts we’d want to live in a desert without help for over a week. yes, sounds high maintenance but we like what we like and have no shame about it.

We packed a ton of food, ~1.5gallons of water a day for drinking and extra for the humidifiers we brought as well as extra if needed for emergencies or sharing or whatever curveballs came our way. our fridge and freezer was full, our trailer holds 81Gallons of water for showers and cleaning hands/food. our bed was beyond comfortable as we layered egg crates and fluffy mattress covers and a soft snuggly comforter. We had a starlink for internet access and for watching the news or college football when resting from the burning man world. WE had a full home on wheels which made the experience easy to do!

happiness and kindness

The community that makes up this new utopian city is kind, happy, carefree and helpful. Anyone who needs a hand with something, needs a ride, needs medical assistance or whatever there is always someone willing to stop what they’re doing and help. It’s a giving community and a beautiful collection of humanity.

self expression

This one is a favorite aspect. You can wear anything (or nothing at all!) and be whoever you want to be and it’s not only accepted, it’s complimented! My husband wore the most outlandish, crazy, colorful outfits and while wearing a rainbow tutu got multiple compliments from muscular, masculine men. It would never happen in the “default” world.

acceptance without judgement

The “default” world is riddled with judgement, one of my least favorite things about humans. it is an ugly quality that makes people feel bad and causes harm to confidence and self image. so much harm is caused by not accepting people for who they are. At burning man, its the complete opposite. Be who you are and shine it as bright as you can!

entertainment 24/7

Burning man is a lot of things. It’s a city and cashless society that offers a vast selection of things to do all day long.

  • Crafts: horn making, flower Crown and LED headpiece making,

  • Workshops: learn about a variety of topics, speaker series, human connection masterclasses

  • Health/Fitness: there are gyms! skateboarding ramps, bike pump tracks, ski ramps, yoga & Meditation

  • Activities: putt putt, lawn games, dirty games (strip corn hole etc), photography, human car washes

  • relaxation/DETOX: spas, massages, hair salons, nail salons, saunas

  • Support Groups: AA meetings and a variety of other group meetups

  • MUSIC: 1000s of DJs and music doing on at all times

  • ART: moving art (art cars) and 100s of stationary art masterpieces!

I could keep going on and on. There’s a million things to do at any time of the day! Here is a SAMPLE of some camps and their offerings:

Connection & Love

When the entire community is buzzing on the same high of life, acceptance and joy you’re bound to make new friends and deepen existing relationships. The friends we were bouncing around the playa with made lifelong memories and shared many hugs.

My husband and I had one of the most amazing weeks together living in a new home, “roughing it” in the desert, seeing musical acts and creative art and falling in love all over again in this magical land.

We’ve been home a few days now and back into the normalcy of “normal awesome life”. I miss the energy and exciting vibration of the playa. Already thinking about next year!

Closing with beautiful photos from other people on the playa to show its magic!
