Biohacking: Toolshed Edition
The hype around “biohacking” these days is real! At least it’s all over my Instagram thanks for targeting my interests since it’s also part of my daily routine. I am lucky my husband is on a very different but similar wellness journey that has brought so many amazing and valuable devices into our home.

Sauna
I love our sauna for many reasons but arguably the prettiest view a sauna can offer overlooking our lake and wildlife sanctuary. I get a good sweat in while watching our swans, turtles and other wildlife. Recent studies indicate sauna exposure helps reduce risk of heart attack by a significant amount among other amazing benefits:

Cold Plunge
WE got a Plunge over a year ago to add to our basement wellness center but in winter time a cold pool works well too! It works very well, maintains a cold temperature of choice (50 degrees for us) and stays clean using ozone and filters.
Cold Plunging
I combine cold plunges, anywhere from 1-3x a few times a week for ~3min each rep. Plunging provides amazing muscle and inflammatory relief from workouts or injuries. But the benefits continue with a long list of goodness:

Contrast Therapy is when you alternate between hot and cold therapies for a combined health benefit that constricts and dilates blood vessels which helps with recovery and general circulation.

We also have a red light that offers an easy way to take a nap and get a spa effect with skin benefits! Red light is supposed to have anti-aging abilities that helps skin tone, texture, acne and more. Additionally, red light therapy is known to help with inflammation and injury recovery like wound healing and even tissue repair. I used red light therapy among other biohacking devices after my spine surgery and I am sure it helped speed up my recovery.
PEMF
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy uses electromagnetic pulses to stimulate and promote natural healing in the body. I think of it as a machine that sends low-frequency magnetic energy waves into our bodies tissues and cells and energizing them to be active.

Alas, our most recent addition to our personal biohacking space is the O2 Box. This hyperbaric chamber is top notch for in-home oxygen therapy. This tool allows for the body to increase oxygen in the blood, tissues and everywhere to help with healing, inflammation, antimicrobrial effects and even stimulates the growth of new blood vessels.

Last but not least, our shockwave machine is probably the most interesting, helpful and unique tools in our toolshed. Shockwave devices target specific areas of the body for wound and tissue healing at a cellular level by delivering a targeting sonic boom of energy that rattles the cells in the area and sends alerts to our bodies healing system (white blood cells, stem cells, etc) to come aide in repair. Additionally, it can Break Down Calcium Deposits and increase blood flow to the area which escalates the healing and recovery process like no other.
