Summit of mount kenya!

Last week, I summited Mount Kenya at 5,000m (16,404ft), the second highest peak in Africa as part of #StriveChallenge for Big Change Charity! An amazing group of 24 Strivers from around the world trekked through a myriad of terrain ranging from mud, rain, hail, rocks, scree, snow, rivers, marsh, and ice through clouds, sunshine and moonshine. #MountKenya provided absolutely breathtaking views and landscape at every turn. From eye-catching Dr. Suess-like trees to stunning lakes at high altitude that reflected the sky. It was magnificent enough to make me forget about the physical effort required of me and I literally frolicked through a 7 mile hike.  My energy was high due to the amazing people I chatted with for hours along the path that lit up my mind as well as the gorgeous landscapes that lit up my eyes!

On summit morning we woke at 3:30am. An hour into the hike the horizon started to shine a beautiful hue of lava red/orange. Watching a sunrise from the top of a mountain should be everyone’s goal to see at least once!  The sun popped above the horizon to help warm up our bodies but our souls were already on fire with excitement with the peak in view!  At 7:01am I stepped onto the summit and said aloud “I did it!” because I couldn’t believe where I was standing! The views were incredible in every direction. The smiling faces of my teammates arriving and the pure joy we shared together is something I will cherish.

A Striver group mantra is “say YES and ask questions later.” My first use of the Mantra was saying a quick YES to joining my first #StriveChallenge as I knew the opportunity was one to not pass up. You know those moments in life that you look back at as a pivotal moment in your life?  This was one for me.  I took away many things from the experience but mostly a clearer understanding of my strength.
* I am strong and fit (capable of climbing huge mountains!)
* I can push myself much further physically (lean into the uncomfortable)
* I am eager to seek out new adventures that can provide more personal growth moments (always striving!)
* I can do more for my community and supporting incredible foundations that are working to improve the world (like #BigChangeCharity)
* I have a list of new bold challenges:
-> Participate in more Strive Challenges (of course!)
-> 12 Hour Walk (Colin O'Brady)
-> Complete a 29029 (29029everesting.com)
-> Trek to Everest base camp
-> Summit Kilimanjaro
-> Surprise goal (TBA)!

WHAT IS YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE!?!?
